Endothelial damage in erosion-induced myocardial ischemia

Plaque erosion is a major cause of myocardial ischaemia. It is unclear why damage to the endothelium, and thus erosion, occurs, and this will be investigated in the project. Endothelial cells in culture and in vivo will be exposed to different flow and environmental conditions and their damage will be described. In patients, photon-counting coronary computed tomography and flow reconstruction will be used to calculate endothelial stress and determine the consequences for endothelial cell activation.
