Modulation of the cardiac damage response by prior respiratory viral infections
Project B12N explores whether prior respiratory viral infections modulate the cardiac damage response to myocardial infarction. We will investigate whether epigenetic priming of cardiac macrophages by viral infections triggers a proinflammatory response following subsequent myocardial injury, leading to adverse cardiac remodelling. By uncovering these mechanisms, the work aims to reveal new therapeutic targets to limit cardiac inflammation and remodelling after viral injury.
